Water & food

I have a drinking water supply: at least 3 days, ideally 10 days (2 L × person × day). BBK recommendation: 2 L per person per day for 10 days. Start with 3 days and expand gradually. I have food for 10 days that keeps without refrigeration. Canned goods, rice, pasta, muesli, UHT milk, salt, sugar. I can open a can without electricity. Manual can opener.

Power & warmth

I have a torch and spare batteries (no candles — fire and CO risk). A power bank for the phone is charged and at hand. At least 10,000 mAh recommended. I have a battery- or hand-crank-powered radio. hr1/hr3/hr4 broadcast continuously in a crisis. I have warm blankets, sleeping bag or warm clothing for longer heating outages.

Home pharmacy & medication

Home pharmacy on hand: plasters, bandages, disinfectant, painkillers, thermometer. Prescription medication lasts at least 1 week. At your own risk in shortages; coordinate with your GP if needed.

Communication & documents

Important phone numbers are also written down by hand. Smartphone battery empty = numbers gone. Important documents (ID, insurance, contracts) are safely stored. Ideally in a waterproof bag. I have some cash at home (ATMs need electricity). Recommendation: 3 days of basic needs.

Warning and emergency apps

I have NINA (BBK) installed on my smartphone. Free, no account required. I have subscribed to local warning channels (e.g. fire service WhatsApp channel). I know what Cell Broadcast is and that my phone can receive it. The nationwide warning day tests it annually (2nd Thursday of September).

Neighbourhood

I know at least one person in the neighbourhood I can turn to in an emergency. I know whether someone near me might need special support (living alone, elderly, ill).
